July 19, 2007

Today we packed up to return to the USA. There were a lot of tearful goodbyes and plans made for seeing each other next year (proxima un ano). Some of us traveled home via American Airlines and Miami, and some traveled via Continential Airlines and Houston/Columbus. The Houston/Columbus group had a 2 1/2 delay in our flight due to bad weather in the north. We arrived about 1 AM Friday AM and ALL our luggage came through! Thanks again for all the prayers and support that were given!!! We are working to get photos and videos together (from all in our group) and hope to have pictures and eventually a DVD to share with you all.

July 18, 2007

Today was a wonderfully full and blessed day. We gave out about 350 to 400 bags today - totalling roughly 1500 bags of food for the week here. At the medical clinic - which was held in "The New Jerusalem" church building we built several years ago, we saw about 285 patients. Whenever we are up there, we have a heavy rain. And today was no exception. Ask Josh about his new career in Pharmacy! We had together time at the Neil Howard Clinic (the clinic we worked out of this week) and had a pizza party that was enjoyed by all. This PM a group went to play soccer with our Honduran family and some to watch.
Josh and Kenny were awarded the "Golden Truck" award. More later on that! Also, I hope to go back through this blog and add Robin's emails that he has sent out through our week here.

Hola from Honduras,
Today was a full day! The two houses were finished. Almost 300 bags were given out in the neighborhood where the two houses have been built. And we ran a medical clinic where we saw about 250 people.

July 16, 2007

Today I worked in constuction again. At this time I'm not sure what all else has been done in benevolence and VBS and at the clinic. The two houses are coming along very well and I am posting a few photos from the house that Ben Nichols is in charge of, where I am working.

Today we were able to sleep in alittle bit, before attending church services at Las Loomis Church of Christ. Then after a lunch at the mall, we traveled to Jovenes en Camino where we enjoyed visiting with the children there. The boys are a delight, and it was hard for us to leave without packing a few in our bags to take with us!

July 14, 2007 Continued

Here are a couple more photos from Saturday.

June 14, 2007

Saturday we had a good Honduran breakfast. Then we walked down the hill and up a long one where we set up for VBS, eye doctor and dentist (group of Americans who joined with us for this excursion manned this) and our medical clinic. Dr. Dan and nurse Carol saw 81 patients - patients ranging from skin rashes, parasite infections and wounds to ones with respiratory infections and a man with a tracheostomy and cancer who was searching for a good American clinic to go to. There were also two doctors from the clinic in Tegu, two other nurses and a pharmacist.... not sure of the total count of patients seen. The ones teaching the Bible at the VBS site had two baptisms resulting from the teaching that day - all in all a VERY good day.

That is, UNTIL our return trip - which was an adventure I do not think any of us want to experience again. God took care of us through the following TORRENTIAL rains, bus sliding about on the steep roads of the mountain, us walking to a shelter in the rain and mud, and the hours it took for Josh, Kenny, Ben and others needed, to get the bus up the hills (via an alternate route) to the place we were huddled in, waiting for them. Our hot showers at the hotel never felt so good at the end of the day!!!
EMAIL FROM ROBIN,
Good Morning,
Saturday morning we worked the clinic. Passed out food and did vbs with the village. There were a couple of baptisms, 2 I think. They were people who attended the clinic and were with us for vbs and the food. The clinic preacher spoke and studied with them and there were baptized in the fishing lagoon. Praise God! I believe that brings the total to 6 who have obeyed the gospel after God has used us and you to touch their lives. We thank God for working in the hearts of the lost and the saved.
We left the Villa Bonita later than planned. The rain started, heavy rain. For several hours, there must have been a couple of inches that fell. The roads fill up quickly with water and of course become muddy and slick. We met some other travelers and a really helpful farmer. We also got to tour a brand new home that was being built. It had several rooms, where most of the homes just have one big room. After spending some time there, we gave them a couple of bags of food and went on our way.
Once we made it to the main road, we still had about 3 hours to drive. We stopped at a native Honduran restaurant it looked like it was in a newer building. The name of it was "Wendy's" :) Then we boarded the bus and headed back to town.
We got back to the hotel about 10:30pm. So we pretty much went to bed when we got back.
Sunday, we headed to the "Children in the Way" the boy's home after worship. More about that later.

Love

Friday, July 13th, was an exceptionally interesting day. After working on benevolence - making up a lot of bags of food, clothing, etc. and the construction team working on the two houses, we loaded up trucks and the bus and took off for what we were told was a "three hour trip" to Valle de Bonita ? (a place they call the beautiful valley).... Robin has composed a song about our "three hour trip" to the tune of Gilligan's Island and I'm sure he would love to sing it for you some time. About six (there is controversy as to the exact time) hours later we arrived, walking the last mile or so in the mud to a residence that a Senor Menedez owns. There we "camped" for the night - also very interesting and too much detail for here.

EMAIL FROM ROBIN

It is Friday morning and we are working in the clinic. There are not too many patients right now. We have bagged more food for our trip to the Valle Bonita which is about 3 hours to the north of here. We are doing an over night and doing a clinic in the morning. Yesterday afternoon, we had two baptizims here at the clinic. The couple studied who studied with a couple and then they were baptized . It was quite a sight. While at the construction site, they did the vbs program and the preacher was preaching there. Before they left for the day, there was a man baptized there as well! Both construction sites set their 16 poles for the buildings. One site put up 2 walls as well. Our doctor saw 61 patients yesterday ranging in age from 1 month old to 90 years old. Last night we had some dinner out of the hotel. We had some left overs and we took them to the streets. We found a young man who gratefully accepted a meal. I spotted two children, probably 10 or so years old. They are by the road. One was washing car windows as they stopped at the light. The other was halfway in the bushes. I went to him first. He raised up and right away, I could smell the glue. My heart sunk as I saw his thin body and glazed eyes. He thanked me for the food, and asked me for money. I would not give him money and told him that he should not do the glue. His eyes were sad, and his pain was evident. It was very difficult to walk away from them as I knew they had no hope in the direction they were heading. They were probably just street kids with no one to love them. We are looking forward to our trip and helping in the village.

Stay tuned for more.

Keep praying!

Hola from Honduras!

Today has been a busy one. Dr. Dan worked in the clinic and saw more than 50 patients ranging from 1 month old to 90 years old. Benevolence bagged up 300 bags of food and clothes that we plan to take to a remote village in the next two days. VBS had classes for a lot of children near the building sites. Three people were baptized today! The building crew started two houses - about one-fourth mile apart from each other. We were able to get back in ahead of some rain that came late in the day. I am hoping to include a few photos with this if my connections work ok.

Honduras

We will be staying in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. But a lot of our work will be done on the outskirts of Tegu and beyond, utilizing mobile clinics and going to remote villages.

June 30, 2007

Today from 9 AM to 12 noon, at the Spring Road church building in Westerville, we packed duffle bags full of supplies to take to Honduras. Each one of us are assigned two bags that are very close to 50 pounds each (NOT to be anymore per airport regulations). The bags are full of medical supplies, clothing,
